Maryland's Lost Boy has found his wings in fashion
This designer has come a long way
Ever wonder what gives the small, inexperienced, and fragile caterpillar the courage to emerge into a beautiful butterfly? Better yet, ever wonder how someone with every odd against them perseveres and soars? Meet DMV’s Marzey, creator/designer of “Lost Effects.”
Gritty Vibes: How did you get into fashion?
I’ve always been into fashion, I was born in it. I got into high end fashion when Kanye dropped his collection with Louie Vuitton.
LOST because I went through a time when I was homeless and I saw the EFFECTS of my actions.
Gritty Vibes: Off rip, the name ‘Lost Effects’ holds substantial visual weight, how did you come up with such a powerful name?
Thanks. When I decided to embrace my get of having my own clothing line, it came to me just like that. LOST because I went through a time when I was homeless and I saw the EFFECTS of my actions.
Gritty Vibes: What does the butterfly represent?
The butterfly was really me. I use to be homeless after I moved back from Atlanta. Sleeping in my car and everything. No job or nothing. One day I went to my mom’s to wash clothes and I was a lil happy me and moms were back talking. I seen she had a press machine and she had started her line. So she told me to do me and I wanted to do something to represent my life and the butterfly was it.
The butterfly was really me. I use to be homeless after I moved back from Atlanta. Sleeping in my car and everything.
Gritty Vibes: How does your creative ability standout from all the other clothing brands in the DMV?
When you have a gift and vision you can do anything. I was blessed with this gift and pulls my talent out of me. My brand is different. You wouldn’t imagine guys embracing the butterfly moment in the DMV but they love it. It’s a breath of fresh air.
Gritty Vibes: Who are your fashion inspirations?
My first inspiration will always have to be Jeremy Scott. He makes crazy pieces. He takes like cartoons and not just put them on a shirt but he will make something you know that its definitely is Jeremys. Love him. Stella McCartney as is ill . She needs more recognition. Yohji Yamamoto, I love his clothes and shoes! I feel like a lot of designers’s stuff looks like his but nobody really gives him proper credit. The type of shoes coming out now, he’s been doing years ago. Rick Owens is my last. His clothes are breath taking! From his boots to his sneakers are so incredible!
Gritty Vibes: Is creating clothes your passion or just a cash come up?
It’s a passion and a gift. It feels great seeing people all over the world wearing my clothes and they love my designs and craft! I have customers worldwide from the USA to Japan to London to Africa.
