DJ She Real's incredible turntable talent is what the game's been missing

Dallas Texas' most fire DJ

In an era of music in which some pundits claim lacks consistent authenticity, the art form of DJ'n has taken a hit. I mean sure, you have your guys standing near turntables curating a shortlist of the latest bangers, but what about the scratching and creativity which hip hop was founded upon? Some would say it's a dying art. DJ She Real peeped game though, and she's filling that void to stand out from the rest. "I gravitated to the more traditional style as a way to set me apart," She says. "When I came in, I had to think what would make me different from the other DJ's in my area and I noticed that not many use vinyl technique of DJ'ing." With this mindset, She Real has surpassed many of her counterparts in the city, and garnered a fan base of her own, who salivate for the mixes which she drops on her social media pages.https://twitter.com/thedjshereal/status/983917180386496512?lang=en

Operating and thriving in a male dominant space is something that She Real is familiar with and starting out, the feedback varied. "The reception to me DJ'ing was very mixed," She says. "Some laughed and couldn't believe I was serious. Some were very supportive, and some were intimidated and really tried to block me from getting on." Any opposers efforts were short lived though, as She Real got her start as a student at The University Of North Texas and has been ascending since. Her signature scratching style was self taught, a skill she picked up by watching old Jazzy Jeff videos and memorizing them verbatim. As her online mixes began to pick up steam, She Real became the talk of the city, and it wasn't long before a radio station came knocking. You can now catch her on the airwaves of K104 FM, a platform where millions can hear what she brings to the table.https://twitter.com/thedjshereal/status/997485880385339397?lang=en

DJ She Real is equally active at gigs around her city of Dallas, where she frequents Night Clubs and a number of other venues. With such a diverse audience which she is booked for, she's always reading the energy of the crowd to dictate her next move. "I just look at the energy level and how they are responding to the track already playing," She says. "I always try to up one with the next track." Her talents have taken her abroad, where she's been to country's that have given her a different perspective on life. "My favorite place was Jamaica," She told Cosign Mag. "Montego Bay. That was so cool because they've never even heard of a female DJ." With her passion as her full time job, She Real is in a unique position and she's taking full advantage. Her tag "Is she really the DJ?" rings out throughout her sets as a reminder of what she faces, from the fans, down to the finances. "Have contracts, deposits, and money upfront before playing any gigs," She advises. "I definitely got ripped off a few times." DJ She Real is no longer a new kid on the block though, and everyone from promoters to fans to haters have no choice but to pay respect.INSTAGRAM - @thedjshereal
