Lewisland taps into the Motown Sound for his latest track "Squashing The Beef"
New Groovy Music from the singer/songwriter
If you've been paying attention to our site, or to Lewisland's artistic path as a whole, you'd know that bold, intentional choices are what makes his sound distinct. Months after the feel good track "Cali Eyes", the indie soul rocker goes full out groovy for his latest offering "Squashing The Beef". In a song that sounds like it could've been on the soundtrack for Shaft, Lewisland lyrics hold some of his most important and timely subject matter yet.

As an artist, themes of Social Justice and togetherness have always been present in Lewisland's discography. In 2020, he made "Run For Your Life", a track inspired by the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery. In "Squashing the Beef", he touches on issues like inequality, love and black unity, while referencing the iconic sound of some of the greats. "Squashing The Beef takes inspiration from the 70's socio-political movement led by legendary artists like Fela Kuti, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Gil Scott-Heron, Bob Marley and Sam Cooke," says Lewisland. "Musically, I experimented with vintage/analog sounds used in the 70s on Motown records hoping to create the perfect atmosphere to deliver an important message."

Accompanying the track is a Alice Pelati directed visual which finds Lewisland dancing through town (and eventually an open field) with a carefree cool. The video stays true to the theme with 70s inspired fonts and transitions for a nice added touch. "Run For Your Life" is another dope addition to the catalog of Lewisland and a nice change of pace in his sound. The artist continues to take on risks and this retro banger does the 70s justice.
