Introducing a Radical New Black Platform: The Kinship
Sharing Black Stories on their own terms
Aligning with like minded creatives and movements is what we do, and the award-winning independent podcast "You Had Me at Black", is the latest initiative that we just had to get y'all hip to. The podcast focuses on reclaiming the Black narrative by passing regular people the mic to share their stories in their words. If that's not dope enough, they introduced another way to share black stories. The Kinship provides creative outlet, community and instruction for Black adults looking to connect, heal, and liberate through art and storytelling. To date, the community is 40 members strong, composed of singers, songwriters, poets, improv comedians, and filmmakers.

“Folks were in need of a creative community, some structure, and some encouragement. That’s what the Kinship is for.” - Abrahams Ilunga
For 12 bucks a month, Kinship members can connect directly to the source of black creativity, gaining access to workshops, event series, and creative prompts, including a monthly fireside chat with multi-disciplinary creatives who break down their work process and share storytelling techniques. Members also receive complimentary tickets to You Had Me at Black’s marquee event, The Kickback, a quarterly live podcast lounge with storytelling and DJ sets that in the past has featured voices like Kvn Alln (fka Erk tha Jerk), Ianne Fields Stewart and Chinaka Hodge.

While The Kinship is for the Black diaspora, non-Black allies can get involved by gifting a year-long membership to a friend. The platform offers a lot for your buck and with it's diverse offerings, it really has something for everyone. “The Kinship uplifted my 2020 by keeping my creative spark alive. I have felt more inspired to write and tell stories since joining,” says member Karyn Wilson, an improv comic from Washington DC who participated in a pilot of the program throughout 2020. Another member, Phoenix-based Cierra Dorsey, adds, “The air is different here. I found the time to be grounding, transformative, and beautiful. The Kinship [created] the space to be cousin’d by like-minded black folx, vulnerable, real, plain, creative, and inspired!”Check out what the hype is all about for yourself.
