Crazy week of NYC BASKETBALL!! Check out this week's review!

Catch up on NYC BASKETBALL

New York has enjoyed a renaissance as of recently, with more elite hoopers these past few years then we've had in a loooong time. While no one can say hoops in the Big Apple is dead these days, we do wish some of our talent would stick around throughout their high school careers. In the case of Kofi Cockburn however, we understand. There was simply no one in the CHSAA who would come close to checking him. For him to reach his full potential, he had to go. He joins a loaded roster at Oak Hill Academy, where he'll be able to truly test his game against national caliber competition.

It doesn't hurt that the guy throwing him the rock this summer will be none other than New York's latest prodigy, Cole Anthony. Anthony made the decision official after weeks of speculation, while he cooked up with the PSA Cardinals. While he was always a super hyped prospect, he's taken things to another level this summer and is in serious talks of being the #1 player in the nation. Although he did a lot of things for Molloy, a championship did manage to elude him. At Oak Hill, he'll try to make up for that with a national chip.

Slam has been killing it with their NY vs NY grassroots campaign, along with their recently launched Showdown at Dyckman Park. The event brought Julian Newman out to the trenches and though the game was rained out after the first quarter, word around the streets is the kid wasn't quite ready. He was handed some early smoke by the city's favorite lefty, Jalen Nesmith. Next up for the showdown is the nation's top eighth grader Emoni Bates. The kid has a bright future ahead of him, but we have a feeling some hungry dogs will be up for the challenge.

Oh and Jalen Lecque decided to take the Donovan Mitchell route and head to Brewster Academy. These days, New York has just one five star remaining, Lawrence Woodmere Academy's Aidan Igiehon. We ain't worried though. New York basketball can't stop won't stop. And a couple of our young bulls got next.
