Meet the Team for our Upcoming Feature Film "The Sound of Southside"

The Independent Film is on the way

We’re thrilled to officially announce that our second feature film “The Sound of Southside” will begin shooting this summer in Queens, New York! This project will truly be special. The independent film will highlight the rich Jazz culture in Jamaica Queens, with elements of race, crime, local politics and black love sprinkled throughout. The Sound of Southside is set to be financed, written and directed by Tyrel Hunt, based on Hunt’s upcoming novel of the same name. What we’re most excited about is the cast. We brought back some core favorite’s from our first award winning film April Again including Justin Kirkland, D Dumebi Egbufor, Arthur Pugh and Amanda Morris Hunt. We’ve also casted actual talented Jazz musicians like Kofi Hunter and Utril Rhaburn in our indie film. Desander Mas, Dwayne Grant, Miles Solomon, Myles Walker, Joyia Bradley and Jason Spooner are also set to play memorable parts in this project. After conducting a citywide search for the lead of “The Sound of Southside”, we went with James Ross, a talented actor and saxophonist. The NYU Tisch alum is bringing his extensive performance experience to the film as the central character “Maliki”.The film’s crew will feature some veteran talent too. The visuals will be provided by Snuggs Studios and its owner Derrick Saint Pierre. We’re also super hyped to have Elliot Cuff’s veteran leadership with the sound, and Landon White – a talented filmmaker in his own right – as the official Assistant Director on this project. Queens based Jazz artist Kofi Hunter is the film's Music Supervisor. We’ll be documenting this film process in depth so make sure you stay in tune with our YouTube channel for behind the scenes footage and updates. Also, check out the vid below, in which we document the in-film music for the performance scenes being pre-recorded. The music is performed by Irwin hall, Kofi Hunter and Idris Frederick (Composed by Kofi Hunter). The community has literally come together to make this project happen. The nonprofit A Better Jamaica is serving as the film's fiscal sponsor, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning is allowing us to shoot in their two beautiful landmark buildings, and VP Records is granting us access to film at their world famous location. Also, shout out to Osiris Room for providing us space to shoot as well. We appreciate the love!https://youtu.be/VzgTTMWP4DY
