Jeffery Miller Drops His New Track "Time In" (Exclusive Interview)

The Grammy Nominated Artist Showcases his Versatility

It's not at all a stretch to say that Jeffery Miller is amongst the best at what he does in the world. The Jazz Trombonist has a resume that is usually reserved for musicians that are twice his age. There's the three Grammy noms, the gigs with seasoned legends like Donald Harrison Jr., Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Delfeayo Marsalis, and Herlin Riley. The list goes on. Still, where Jeffery Miller truly shines is his versatility. In his latest joint "Time In", Miller leans more towards R&B, delivering a catchy hook that sticks to your ribs like soul food.In the "Time In" video, the New Orleans native links with his friend Kyle to create a memorable visual aesthetic. By incorporating Super 8 footage and the vast California landscape, the video invokes a nostalgic vibe to remember. "Time In" co-stars Amanda Morris Hunt, and Jeffery Miller's signature Trombone. The track weaves in elements of Jeffery New Orleans upbringing, while also showcasing a different side of his musicality. We spoke to him briefly to hear more about the video, and the art in his own words.

It’s dope that you’re keeping tradition alive out of New Orleans. How important is it for you to carry that torch in your music?

New Orleans is who I am. Being a New Orleans native informs every thought I have and decision I make, both musically and otherwise. I can’t help but carry the Light that is the New Orleans tradition on my back with everything I do - that’s just what and how it is.https://youtu.be/ZomlSDYHAQg

“Time in” is a nice change of pace for you. How did you land on this idea for the track?

My friend/producer Ben (whom I met through my friend/manager Max) showed me a super tasty loop a few years ago, and really the rest is history! A year or so after that, I met back up with Ben in Dover, New Hampshire; and we added the finishing touches on “Time In”, “Permanent Stains”, and the rest of the songs for the EP.

You made some bold choices creatively with the music video. The use of a super 8 camera stood out especially. What was the creative process like for coming up with the concept?

The “Time In” music video was directed by my good friend Kyle (KPR). Kyle is a true visionary and is passionate about the finest of quality. He would be able to tell you much more about the specific camera choices and things of that nature, but the concept was a brainchild of Kyle’s aesthetic and the colors of the song according to my synesthesia. I’m so thankful for my team and everyone involved (Max, Kyle, Sam, Alejandro, Jessica, Estevan, Amanda, etc.) for making something truly beautiful in this music video.

"Music is beautiful because of its freedom, fluidity and Love. As long as you fully give your true self to the music and get closer to it as you crave Light, It will love and take care of you, as God does."

As a musician who’s played with some of the biggest names in Jazz music, you continue to push the envelope with your sound. Should we expect more music with your R&B sound going forward?

All of my experiences make me the artist I am today, whether or not I bring those influences to the Light publicly. Music is beautiful because of its freedom, fluidity and Love. As long as you fully give your true self to the music and get closer to it as you crave Light, It will love and take care of you, as God does. I’m excited about the music we have yet to bring to Light. Just know that whatever music I come out with, it will always be on the Level and always goes deeper than you think. ;)
