Otev drops a dark visual for his single "In My Head"

The melodic track has a relatable vibe for artists

When we last covered Otev to review his powerful 2020 single "Melting Away", he left us with a preview of what's to come.  “I’ve been in the studio just working and stacking records,” He told us in October 2020. “I wanna give the people the best experience possible when it’s time to drop my EP.” In the months that have followed, he's kept his word, putting out some his most acclaimed and well received work yet. He sparked off 2020 with an ode to a lost lover with his track "Season". The video -- which has pulled in over 65,000 views on YouTube so far -- marked another collaboration of Otev and his go to director Ezru Gonzalez. Now, the dynamic duo has linked up yet again for their latest single/video "In My Head".

In "In My Head", we see a different side of the Staten Island rapper's mindset. As his rap career has gained momentum, trust issues have arisen. He questions the intentions of those who claim to be his Day 1s, but approach him with their hand out, or offering unneeded creative input. Otev's vocals once again are a standout here, complementing the dark, introverted tone of the visual perfectly. "This record touches on the mental struggles artists deal with on a daily basis," says Otev.

Perhaps equally impressive as the song is the way the visual depicts his mindset. The video features barely lit graffiti filled alleys and Otev surrounded by folks with masks on like something out of the purge. An unmasked Otev is nostalgic, looking for something familiar in an increasingly unfamiliar world. As we await his EP and his next moves, the melodic artist has delivered once again with a dope song and relatable message for artists everywhere.
