Coi Leray Deserves Your Respect
It's time we tuned in to the music of Coi Leray
While some go in the opposite direction of their parents route, Coi Leray embraced her father Benzino's path head on, and she's since carved out a name of her own in Hip Hop. This almost wasn't the case though. In 2018, she decided to quit the 9-5 grind and ride out with the momentum of her hit ‘G.A.N. (GOOFY A** NI**AZ). “That’s when I knew I was ready for this shit,” says Con Leray. “I quit my job, moved out of my apartment, moved back in with my mom, and it was lit ever since.”Lit is an understatement. You may have heard the Dej Loaf comparisons and we definitely hear them in her sound, but Coi Leray has come into her own, fusing Rock and Roll and other genres into her music. Her versatility as a musician was picked up as a kid: “Well, you know, I grew up around Kidz Bop. Kidz Bop had like a hundred different varieties on one tape. So you’ll go from listening to Outkast to Justin Timberlake to Paramore like quick,” she says.
It's about time we stop referring to Coi Leray as Trippie Redd's Ex or Benzino's daughter and start acknowledging her for who she is: A really dope musician.Check out more dope content here
