Album Review: 88thKey and Súle's upcoming 'Astral Project' is a must listen
A great moment for underground rap
When underground Hip Hop rappers 88thKey and Súle released Retrogrades a year back, their shared chemistry shined bright on the track throughout. After a period of carefully crafting concepts, technical setbacks, change and introspection, they are finally set to deliver a ten song album that encapsulates their journey. Astral Project, an upcoming joint album between the two emcees, steers clear of materialistic subject matter, instead they take us on a smoke filled journey to enlightenment.

The project sparks off with Genesis, where the two trade bars about their perspective on everything from their mindsets, to the concept of time, over spacey production that reminds us of something early Curren$y would've spit over. The project itself is comprised of beats found at random from the YouTube beat-makers Young Swisher Beats, Urban Nerd, MKSB, Kenneth English, K9ne and B Young among others. Together, 88thKey and Súle create a sound containing classic NYC elements and Go-Go influenced sounds.

“The beautiful part about this process was exploring self-love."
“We thought a lot about existential things, like the purpose of life and love and what those concepts mean to the both of us, when we were cutting this album,” said Súle. “The beautiful part about this process was exploring self-love. Nothing is possible without understanding that kind of love first, and that’s what sparked the project for me.” That love is most literally displayed in “Cleopatra,” where Súle reflects on a deep reconnection with a romantic partner through smooth and rhythmic flows. Overall, Astral Project is an awesome collaboration between two talented artists who use the music as a vehicle to take us on a celestial journey. “Creating this album was life painting life," Say 88thKey. "Each song was a different stroke of a 2 year journey”. A quick listen proves that this journey is well spent. We're just happy the final product has almost reached its destination.Astral Project drops November 13th
