Exclusive interview with the creator of the award winning comic "The Endigo Society”

A force in the world of black comics

When an ancient sage seals the Secrets of his supernatural power into sacred objects and scattered them throughout the earth, the objects would be found and entrusted to a special group of individuals destined to revive the supernatural to the world called "The Endigo Society”. Norwick Robinson, the creator of this award winning comic, centers the story around Odyssey Nadika, a teenage black girl who is coming to terms with her newfound power and responsibility.
Along with it's award winning comic, The Endigo Society website includes merch and Norwick has big plans for it's future. We spoke about the comic's backstory, his creative process, and the state of black comics as a whole.

1. Can you tell us a bit about your early beginnings in comics? What got you started in the field?

Overall, I've been reading comics and mangas ever since I was in middle school and I always found it fascinating. In the year of 2015, I started writing the first draft for Endigo Society due to the knowledge of the indigo children and I've been selling comics ever since.

2. Your comic 'Endigo Society' is a hit. For those who may be interested in a story like the one you created, can you let us know what it's about?

Yes, Endigo Society is about a group of teenagers that can control mystical weapons created by a sage from the past. The story starts off by introducing a young African American girl by the name of Odyssey Nadika. One day while walking home from school, she goes through a spiritual transformation that leads her to realize she is one of many teenagers that can control one of the weapons.

3. What's your creative process like when you're creating a comic? Does the story come first? Visuals? Is it collaborative or something you do on your own? I'd love to know more about that process.

My creative process is straightforward. I sit down and write out the script for the comic and after going over it with a team if individuals I trust, I hand it over to a professional artist to illustrate my vision. Overall, it's all about teamwork.

4. What are your views on the state of black comics and animation as a whole? Are there finally enough comic books out there like Endigo Society where black people can feel represented?

I feel as though comics and animation are doing well. I especially love the rise of black comics and animation. Shout out to companies like Noir Ceaser that specialize in bringing that to fruition.

5. What are your goals going forward with your artistry?

Well after the release of Endigo Society #1 and all the success it's been getting, my main goal is to continue to put out great content and expand to more stores. Eventually, we will dive more into animation, merch, etc
