The director leads a powerful and diverse creative team

When two women are betrayed by their manipulative husbands, they begin plotting to find a way out. The escape they seek, turns deadly. This is the premise that the award winning writer and director Chyna Robinson presents for her latest film "No Ordinary Love". The acclaimed feature film has gone on an impressive run in the festival circuit, bringing home several personal awards for Robinson, and accolades for the project itself. Next up, Chyna Robinson and the team will showcase "No Ordinary Love" on the largest platform for Black Cinema, American Black Film Festival.

While COVID-19 has shaken up the industry, ABFF has pivoted to an online model, showcasing 90 films from across the globe, selected from a record number of entries. When asked her feelings about her film being among those selections, Chyna said, “It seems surreal. This is a filmmaker’s dream and an amazing opportunity to showcase our work at such a prestigious festival.”

Her film's selection and success is no surprise to those who have followed the rise of Chyna Robinson. In 2017, she made her film debut with the short film entitled "Greenwood:13 Hours" a story about a family trapped in their homes during the massacre and destruction of Black Wall Street in 1921. She handled the difficult subject matter with aplomb, earning multiple awards and placing her in the conversation for up and coming filmmakers.
Black woman filmmakersPerhaps equally as impressive as the feature film itself is Chyna Robinson's commitment to expanding both the voice and representation in the world of filmmaking. As a young, black filmmaker in a male dominated industry, Robinson collaborated with women in nearly every key position, a stark contrast from the composition of most film's creative teams. "No Ordinary Love" also explores the social justice issue of domestic violence in a matter that is rarely displayed on the big screen. Chyna Robinson's film has established itself as a micro budget feature that compete in any festival. We hope to see more from her and her team in the future.Watch "No Ordinary Love" here
