Immanuel Wilkins delivers with the long awaited Jazz single "Warriors"

The debut album is on the way

When Immanuel Wilkins debuted "Warriors", the single from his upcoming project, he included a dedication to the many black lives taken at the hands of the police. His album, which is slated for an August 7th release, was conceptualized to speak directly to the black American experience. In this current racial climate, the killing of black bodies has finally become a national discussion, making Immanuel's timing all the more important. “After the killing of George Floyd, there’s a serious demand to end these lynchings of Black folk,” Wilkins says. “What is change? And what’s the reality of what these things look like in practice? Sandra Bland, Michael Brown, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, Philando Castile, what does the end of this look like.” Like John Coltrane did with the legendary track "Alabama", Immanuel finds a way to incorporate the heartbeat of the times into his sound.best jazz musician 2020While his upcoming album "Omega" captures the harrowing black experience, "Warriors" is a tune about unpacking love to those closest to you. "It’s about friendships, family, your hood, and your community,” Wilkins says. “It’s about us serving as warriors for whatever we believe in.” The track has already made its presence known on the streaming platforms, reaching #1 on Spotify's “Jazz X-Press” and Apple Music‘s “Jazz Currents” . With a tradition blending style and a socially conscious disposition, we're expecting his album to be something truly special. Check out the single below.
