HOTTEST OUT THE 9! Quentin Gilmore drops a hit single

Rocpaperscissors is the perfect late summer tune

While talent is definitely an important element, achieving success as a rapper is often directly tied to good timing and a strong first impression to their audience. For Quentin Gilmore, the talent was always there, but dropping an official single is something he waited patiently for as he crafted his image and style as an Emcee. The Mount Vernon flame spitter has bars with the delivery of golden age rappers like Jadakiss or Styles P. With his hit single "Rocpaperscissors" though, he throws a curveball, proving he's more than just a lyrical rapper. The track gives us a glimpse at his potential to hit the radio and appeal to a massive audience. It won't be long until the world knows Gilmore's name, but as for now, he sat down with us, and we got to know him for ourselves.Check out the interview below!

1. Can you talk about your upbringing in Mount Vernon? Who's music did you come on? How early did you find rap?
Growing up in Mt.Vernon were the best times. Nothing but great memories during the Litefeet Era. I was the best young dancer from my side holding down the north and Myte Dre(Dj Myte) holding down the south lol. Of course it can be rough at times but that’s what builds you can’t ever run from the hood. Right after dancing was basketball and now here I am doing music time flys. As early as I can remember I was a major Hip-Hop fan. My favorite rapper switched every season but the main rappers I grew up on are Jay-Z, Dmx,Lauryn Hill, And Kanye West. The greats who I still have faith that I’m going to work with one day. Every NY kid writes little raps growing up but my first actual song I recorded I was 12 years old. I Did like 3 songs and then put the Mic down until 17, once i realized I wasn’t going to the NBA.

2. You've been on the rapping scene for a while but this is your first official release. What exactly were you waiting on leading up to this track?

So yeah from 17 to now (23) just been grinding developing as an artist. I put out 6 mixtapes and a handful of videos which you can find on Spinrilla, SoundCloud & Youtube. I really can’t say why I waited so long to release officially it just felt like the right time, and the right song.

3. Let's talk about Rocpaperscissors. Been humming it all day. What was your mentality coming into the song making process?

I recorded RocPaperScissors in the beginning of April in Brooklyn. The vibes was right I remember putting bars on my insta snap similar to what ended up being the hook and she challenged me to make a song out of it(She=RocPaperScissors[nobody can know her name unless u know her already lol). But yeah when your biggest crush ever in the world say that you can’t fumble gotta make a hit a Big Hit. I’m Like Sterling Shepard in the clutch back in Norman.

4. You've proved you can be lyrical as well as radio friendly. Which lane would you say you feel most comfortable?

https://youtu.be/HK95UkqjQHY

I’m always most comfortable being lyrical that’s what I’ve built my artistry off. Lately I’ve been proving to myself I can make radio records with songs like Callouts Mandatory and RocPaperScissors. I’m aiming for radio I’m not going to say I’m not. On my next solo project that’s one of my goals to make it more radio friendly then my last.

5. What should we expect next coming from you? Any releases or plans that your fans should look forward to?

What fans can  except coming up from me is new interviews, and amazing RocPaperScissors video and an amazing album. Oh yeah and Me And Niko Brim’s collab projects. Stay tuned appreciate all supporters.
