Another Gem in NYC: Meet Jaquan Carlos

Brooklyn AA has a problem on their hands

By Migale WhyteWe all know that the list of New Yorkers who've dominated the hoops scene in the city and gone on to represent in college and the pros is up there with any other place in the country. The city's recent resurgence has given us some new names to look out for, with Jaquan Carlos being one of them. Carlos is the number one point guard in NYC for the class of 2021 and is looking to make and instant impact for Thomas Jefferson HS this upcoming high school season. The six foot guard for the Orange Wave has the tools to be a division 1 player and it'll be exciting to see his journey begin this year.Jaquan's game is very well rounded for his age but the humble freshman emphasized his defense, stating: "I think everyone has been sleeping on my ability on the defensive side of the game... I’ve been told that a lot of people think that I’m a one way player so this year I'm going to show why i should be considered a two way player." Carlos' role this year will be pivotal due to his teams lack of seniority. While they may lack veterans, Coach Pollard still feels they can compete with the best with heavy hitters like St Raymonds and Christ the King. After running with the New Heights 15u (and 16u at times), Carlos held his own more than held his own, at times exploding for high double digit games against some of the better UAA teams. To cap off a great summer, the electric floor general received an offer from NC State.Coming into his first HS season, Carlos explained the he obviously had things to improve coming from the middle school level noting: "How my game changed from the middle school level to HighSchool is being more of a consistent shooter and getting stronger".  With a tough schedule in front Jaquan is ready to handle it. "I’m just ready to play against everybody on my schedule from the first game to the last," He says. "I just want to come out and compete on this big stage that my coach is putting the team on". Highly competitive and locked in, Carlos has his team goals set high for this season. With what we've seen thus far, he'll be a big part of the Orange Wave's success. "I’m looking forward to winning a city and state championship," He says. Lofty goals for a freshman, but Jaquan Carlos has proven to be light years ahead of his peers mentally. The youngster isn't content with waiting his turn, so expect to hear his name in the city for years to come.
